What would a society in which humans and animals share habitat look like?
Animals in this future would not be seen as entertainment attractions, but instead would occupy urban areas as coinhabitants, wandering at will and making creative use of facilities. Sharing space with animals, humans would gradually learn to cooperate more companionably with them, and to share responsibility for natural resources and the health of the planet. The mapping system depicted here would provide information about how different species of animals’ habitats—including humans’—intersect and overlap. The photographs, shot by citizens, show animals making creative use of the human-built environments.
